Can I skip the 15 minute consultation and book my first session online?

Accepted Answer

Every new client needs the consultation because:
 
1) My service is quite specific to discussions around anti-racism. I don't want you dissapointed if that's not what you signed up for;
 
and
 
2) I believe our relationship needs to feel right. If you meet me and think "nah", I won't take it personally and wish you to find someone who can meet your needs;
 
If we agree that it is a good fit, then I'll welcome you to book if you choose. You can change you mind, really.

My primary reason for seeking support is not around race- can I still access your service?

My services are specifically around the topic of race, racial justice, and racial trauma. If your reason to seek support is not around the topic of race, I invite you to check out Healing in Color where I hope you can find someone to meet your needs.

What can I expect during our session?

You lead the way. 
I have experiences and tools as a person of color & social worker that may support you, but I believe you hold the answers within yourself. 
Exploring your experiences with self-compassion. 
Steering away from blame.

I’m worried about saying the wrong thing. Are you going to think I'm a racist?

Accepted Answer

We all live a world where we're exposed to racist ideas every day. I believe that we all hold racist beliefs and values, consciously or unconsciouly, that we must unlearn. I am no different than you and willing to join your journey. 
 
You are already taking steps to unlearn by looking at my website and considering if you want more support to strengthen you understanding of racial justice. You are allowed to to name and explore any thoughts, values, and feelings you have during our time together.

What is your cancellation policy?

If you must cancel/reschedule an appointment, then provide 24 hour advanced notice via connect@joannemagtoto.com, otherwise the full rate will still apply. Running late? That's ok. You are welcome to use the rest of your scheduled time at the full rate.
